Amaya Dowling at The VSB Center for Marketing and Consumer Insights 10th Anniversary Villanova MarTech Forum - May 30, 2024, New York City
Introducing Me
Hello W.I.N. Community,
My name is Amaya Dowling. I am currently a rising junior attending Villanova University. I am a part of Villanova University’s School of Business with a major in Marketing and a minor in Africana Studies. I am from Burlington, New Jersey, and am the youngest child in my family. My older brother attended Villanova University, Class of 2021, so he was a main motivator in my college decision choice. The various visitations and pickups during his college career encouraged me to make Villanova University my Alma mater.
Why Marketing?
When it came to filling out my college applications, the major selection process was a no-brainer for me. Since taking my first marketing course in high school, I have become fascinated with the business world, especially with the concept of advertising products. My high school marketing teacher played a big factor in my major selection because without her leading such an interesting class and having great enthusiasm about the subject, I do not know what I would want to do with my career in the future. I have noticed that businesses relevant to my demographic receive less funding, coverage, and resources when it comes to building their brand, so I want to be a part of the solution for equitable representation in the market. In pursuing marketing, my overall goal is to market and advertise products for underprivileged businesses as many underprivileged businesses are overlooked due to opportunity barriers.
My Villanova Experience So Far
Through my time here at Villanova University, I have had the opportunity to engage myself in various extracurricular activities such as:
The Office of Belonging and Inclusion - Programming Ambassador
The Superlative - Social Media Chair
The Center for Marketing and Consumer Insights - Ambassador
The Office of Belonging and Inclusion is an office that creates and supports programming that fosters and sustains a community of respect and inclusion for Villanovans with a special focus on underrepresented students. Within the Office of Belonging and Inclusion, I am a programming ambassador, so I interact with various organizations and departments on campus and enhance
programming to increase student engagement. I am also a part of a dance team called The Superlative. The Superlative is an all-styles, multicultural dance team that performs to teach audiences the beauty of dance through the blending of styles. Lastly, I have recently become an ambassador for Villanova University’s Center for Marketing and Consumer Insights. For the fall semester of 2024, I will provide direction to the CMCI leadership about what is most meaningful to Marketing students and help promote events at student societies' general body meetings to ensure that they know that students of all backgrounds feel welcome in marketing.
WINternship Takeaways
I am very grateful for this opportunity and for being able to call myself a WINtern. Through this internship, I would like to gain knowledge on two topics:
Content Marketing
Creating and publishing content for a company's targeted audience to boost consumer awareness towards the brand.
Social Media Marketing
Using the right social media platforms to not only promote a company's products/services but also increase brand awareness for those who do not receive adequate resources to keep their business on the market and in competition with others.
Final Thoughts
Once again, I would like to state how grateful I am for this opportunity to become a WINtern for 2024. Thank you for learning a bit more about me, Amaya Dowling. If you would like to connect or reach out to me, you can use the following:
